On 11<\/span>th<\/span> of January,2025 To My Aid International, in collaboration with four enthusiastic students from Christelijke Hogeschool Ede and local healthcare workers in Ghana, organized a comprehensive health screening for the residents of the village of Apradan. The entire day was dedicated to health, prevention, and raising awareness.<\/span><\/p>\n

In total, 97 villagers participated in the screening, during which blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and Body Mass Index (BMI) were measured. The results showed that there is still much work to be done: more than half of the participants had an abnormal BMI. BMI is a widely used indicator to assess whether a person has a healthy weight in relation to their height. Blood pressure results were also concerning: nearly half of the participants had high blood pressure, with three cases classified as extremely high.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

To share this information in a clear and accessible way, nursing students Joy and Thijs developed a practical health card. Using a color-coded system, participants could immediately see whether their results fell within healthy ranges. This made it easier to understand potential health risks and discuss necessary steps toward a healthier lifestyle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants were encouraged to pay more attention to nutrition, physical activity, and stress management, and to seek medical help when needed. In addition to checking vital signs, 120 people also came for eye tests, during which free reading glasses were provided to those in need. Many also received assistance in applying for or renewing their health insurance, making future healthcare more accessible.<\/span><\/p>\n

The health screening in Apradan was more than just a medical activity; it was a meaningful gathering of care, education, and community. By sharing knowledge and working together, not only was the physical health of participants assessed, but awareness was also raised about the importance of preventive healthcare. It was an inspiring day where small steps made a big impact.<\/span><\/p>\n
